In Jane Austen's novel Pride and Prejudice the main characters both have characteristics of pride and prejudice but, in my opinion, Elizabeth Bennet represents pride while Mr. Darcy represents prejudice. The two are kept apart by there own characteristics. Darcy will not except Elizabeth because of his prejudice against her (and her status). Darcy will not be tempted by anyone who is not of his social status (which is another theme in the novel). This prejudice keeps him from Elizabeth. However, over the course of the novel he will let down this guard and see her for who she is, and ultimetally fall in love. Eliza however, will not except Darcy as a possible interest because of her pride. She is put of by her first impression of Darcy (which was characterized by his arrogance and rudeness towards her) and will not change her opinion of him for the majority of the novel. Even with his changing attitude towards her, she will not except this becuase her pride keeps her from changing this opinion. It is not until Darcy saves her families reputation that she will she Darcy' s true nature. These two aspects, pride and prejudice, are the main concepts keeping Darcy and Elizabeth apart for most of the novel.
